porch light

I said I’d keep the light on
just in case
an empty draft blew her my way

I said it quietly
no one could hear
the chair turned politely
asking to sit
stumbled bungled
I wrapped arms flying across the knees
while the porchlight
drew only moths

the night breeze is colder
than it has been
summer is coming later in the fall

the porch light searches throughout the night
miraculous fever adorn my head!

this time time tomorrow
