Sleeping little lies

street cold ice
black lung inhale the smoke
streetlight my only caress

soft lovers delve under the shadows
kissing what wasnt there
dreams escaping between parted lips

dark night speeds
across the coronary scream
dance with me under the red

stop in motion. transit has come full circle.
next stop.
fare past due.

struggle against the yellow line
pavement screams out your name
but the rain streaks across the vision of the saints
this is my home
this is where the stars come to meet
this is
here.

  1. Like this, has a real feel of a damp night in a city …don’t know why have a feel i’m reading it from a cabbies perspective …thank you x

    1. The street does own you when you live there. It controls everything. It owns everything until you can break free. Of course, that’s just my own opinion:)

  2. Where the rubber meets the road, love asphalt as muse, thinking of the lives collected, the dreams shattered, imprinted with poem upon poem, but ultimately, racing to freedom, where the stars come to meet….okay, so my mind ran away with your words….

    1. Hey Tash, as always, appreciate the comments. Considering that the streets were an integral part of my life, they tend to be my unwanted muse as well. Thanks for seeing the freedom within.

  3. Everyone’s already autopsied out your excellent lines, so I’ll just say I like this one a lot–like the image of the unseen menace in the everyday, and the lies we love to believe. Well built brick by brick, word by word, like all the best ones.

  4. Very much enjoyed the place and time.. and being in your shoes for a while.. this line caught me:

dance with me under the red

… and the movement to the end isa lovely surge..

  5. Hi Gary…

    I enjoyed your lines ..

‘soft lovers delve under the shadows
    kissing what wasnt there
    dreams escaping between parted lips’

What a beautiful imagery….and then you go deeper… and talk about the pavements screaming your name… I enjoyed it all. Thanks for sharing…
