Broken fear

Demagogue dreams with
silent screams the red light traffic
howls to a stop

Sandwich board declares the divinity
and shouts “Repent” Repent the time is near”
but in a fools folly
forgot the grace
and the people spit as they passed him bye.

Dreamers lessons begin with
the sandwich board sign
auctioneer holler
but the little man whimpers
in broken fear
hidden mantra dying slowly
on his lips
blue frozen and cracked.

The mirror opened up a little that day.

  1. I really like this one. My favorite line:

    but in a fools folly
    forgot the grace

Reminded me of “the Jesus guy,” as the kids call him, who walks up and down the sidewalk near my son’s school – where a Jr. high and a high school are across the street from each other. I always want to stop and tell him they won’t be motivated by fear, but by grace and love. They are too young to even think of eternity – they need to know what Jesus can do for them here and now. Peace, Linda
